The history of radio in Quebec
François Jobin recounts the major trends in Quebec radio from its inception to the present day.
In 1922, CKAC, the first commercial radio station, appeared in Canada. Since then, stations have multiplied and competed fiercely for listenership. Some have changed their focus, others have disappeared. Long before television, Quebec's idols were voices: Henri Bergeron, Roger Baulu, Pierre Pascau, René Lévesque, Janette Bertrand, Juliette Huot, and, more recently, Jacques Languirand and Serge Bouchard, all made their names on radio. The first serial dramas originated on radio: Un homme et son péché (A Man and His Sin), La pension Velder (The Velder Boarding House), and Vie de famille (Family Life) captivated Quebec audiences for many years, not to mention lighter programs like Nazaire et Barnabé (Nazaire and Barnabé), Zézette, and Le festival de l'humour (The Humor Festival).
