Artist Statement
The representation of the human body, embodied life, is the subject of my work. I create stylized figures performing a parodic dance. In their nudity, these sexed bodies, realistic and sublimated, reveal their vulnerability. My approach to painting is marked by Automatist freedom: seeking expression through figuration, avoiding the anecdotal, through a free gesture that I revisit as it encounters the dimensions of the sheet. The figure takes its place. Its form becomes deformed. The painting, a window. An instant. A story comes to mind. Ambiguous suggestion. Palpable life, shock and fulfilment, finding a way to represent it. Its spectacle and its effects on oneself. Through drawing and painting, while thinking in sculpture.
Jean Kazemirchuk
Artist Statement
My paintings are allegories of the present, of politics, ecology, and individual and collective consciousness. My artistic work examines the fragility of the human mind and the vulnerability of the world we navigate. I depict bizarre, unusual situations, gatherings of colourful figures. I also sometimes depict raw reality as it presents itself to our psyche.
I like to highlight depictions of fleeting moments that I try to capture on the fly through automatic sketches. Sketches reworked at the drawing table to better grasp their dreamlike reality.
There are also moments of revolt in the face of the growing threat of the ravages of pollution, and especially the destruction of war. In an act of resistance, I then try to denounce these murderous follies. Reality asserts itself through metaphors in which emotion takes precedence over anecdote.
